Minnesota Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Website Dave Alto President-MnIAAA Spring Lake Park High School
The MnIAAA has had another busy summer. We hosted a Summer Leadership Institute for our membership along with the NIAAA Section U Meeting. The Leadership Courses have become an important component for professional development of athletic administrators in order to obtain CAA (Certified Athletic Administrator) or CMAA (Certified Master Athletic Administrator) certification. This institute would not be possible without the outstanding contributions from Craig Perry (MSHSL), Jamie Sherwood (Wayzata), Jim Baker (retired-Richfield) and Pete Veldman (MnIAAA Ex. Sec.). The NIAAA Section U Meeting was a great success! 21 NIAAA members representing six states, along with Bruce Whitehead (NIAAA Executive Director) discussed a variety of topics relating to the NIAAA. Once again, Minnesota will host the Section U Meeting in 2008. A date and place are yet to be determined.
We are looking forward to the Fall Athletic Administrators Workshop September 9 & 10 at the Crowne Plaza and the Minnesota State High School League. This workshop is designed to help new Athletic Administrators. The program is set up to give information on (1) the State and National Associations and their benefits, (2) the MSHSL and their functions and how they help member schools, (3) a session designed to help with the “nuts and bolts” of everyday operation, and (4) the “Role of the Region in Student Activities”.
The Spring Athletic Administrator State Conference will once again be held in St. Cloud at the Kelly Inn and the St. Cloud Civic Center April 2, 3, & 4. The change of venue last year proved to be an ideal location for our meetings as well as a much improved setting for the vendors. Fred Sailer (Perham), 1st Vice President, is in the process of developing an outstanding conference. This year’s theme is “Together We Can”.
As we start another school year, let’s remember the great impact we can make on our students at our school. All of us, coaches and athletic administrators, provide an incredible source of inspiration for our young athletics. A price can not be put on the valuable life lesions that are taught every day. Take every day and make it your best! Have a great school year! |
